NOVEMBER
MONTHLY MEETING November 26, 2008
Topic: Current International Trends
Speakers: Victoria Hurtado and Alejandro Ferreiro
What are the important "international trends" that
we should watch out for as professionals? How are current economic
and political trends affecting Chile and what is Chile's influence
on the rest of the globalized world? Victoria Hurtado and Alejandro
Ferreiro, two international experts in their respective fields
of public policy and economics, will inform us about the current
trends shaping our quickly changing world, especially during
the last year. They will also tell us about their own experiences
as relevant actors shaping the national landscape here in Chile.
A lawyer from the University of Chile, Victoria Hurtado currently
works as a full time professor in the School of Government at
Adolfo Ibañez University. Previously she worked as assistant
to the Chilean Treasury Secretary in matters related to International
Negotiations. She also served as Acting Vice Chair for the Center
for Latin American Studies at the University of California,
Berkeley. She obtained her Master's Degree in Public Management
from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University
in 2000 and is a Consultative member of the David Rockefeller
Center for Latin American Studies. Alejandro Ferreiro was recently
named to the directive board of the newly established Transparency
Council for the Chilean Government. He previously served as
Economic Minister under President Bachelet, Superintendent of
Securities and Exchange and of Isapres (Chile's private health
insurance companies), to highlight just a few of the offices
he has held as a public servant. He studied Law at the University
of Chile and holds an M.A. from the University of Notre Dame.
